"If you ever get a chance to do something and you’re scared to do it, you should definitely fucking do it" - Tom Aspinall

For those of you who don’t know who the hell is Tom Aspinall, he’s a 30 year old Mixed Martial Artist from the UK and these are his words minutes after he won a UFC Heavyweight Championship.

Why did he say it?

Because he took a fight against the most dangerous man in the Heavyweight division with the following conditions

  • He was on vacation while accepting the offer

  • Offer came through 2 weeks before the fight

  • His opponent had a streak of 6 first round finishes, knocking out cold the most dangerous dudes on the planet and had a proper training camp

One can argue that odds were not in Toms’ favor and be absolutely right.

99% of the people wouldn’t take the risk.

Tom’s not one of them.

His dream has always been to be a champion of the world and who knows if he ever gets that opportunity again, so how could he turn it down?

There is no perfect time for anything, there is a chance and there is your decision - to take it or not.

Those boasting that they’ve been waiting for their opportunity for so long are the same people not seizing it when it’s in front of them.

‘I’m not ready’, ‘I’m scared’, ‘The time is not right’ BLA BLA BLA…

Life doesn’t care about any of it, these things are worthless to even mention.

All it cares about is giving you that chance and letting you decide - take it, or let it slip.

Let’s add some more gasoline to the fire, Tom got injured just when he started his 2 week training camp which left him with basically no preparation at all.

But did he call the fight off?

No, he didn’t, he didn’t make any of it public and was ready to face his destiny.

When you refuse to take your chance, the only thing that gets remembered is that act of cowardness.

Nobody remembers any excuses you come up with.

They are all garbage, wasted energy, thin air.

Toms’ courage teaches us a lot about life, you’re either always ready or your dreams pass by you.

As simple as it gets.

Eminem portrayed it beautifully in his lyrics for Lose Yourself

Look, if you had one shot or one opportunity

To seize everything you ever wanted in one moment

Would you capture it or just let it slip?

Tom proved an old saying to be right:
FORTUNE FAVORS THE BRAVE.

In your life, remember it and act accordingly.
